Welcome to Year 2!
We appreciate that some of your children may be feeling a bit wobbly about returning to school in September. We know that the transition from KS1 up to KS2 can be a big one. Therefore, we have put together a little transition social story containing important places and people in Year 3.
Miss Scotney, Miss Smith Mrs Price and Miss Olley would like to welcome you to Year 2.
1st April 2020
We hope you are settling in and adjusting to your new way of life for the time being and are staying safe and active.
To give you a bit of guidance and support, we will be creating a suggested weekly timetable full of activities that you may wish to work on with your child at home.
This is not to say that you must stick to this timetable rigidly. It is there to help you build some structure into your child’s week and keep them focused and engaged.
We would love to hear about how you are finding the activities and see the outcomes the children have produced. The children have all been given their Purple mash logins so they can use the 2Email app on this site to keep us up to date with what they have been doing.
You can also email us on KAYear2@kaderacademy.org.uk
We hope to see you as soon as possible and wish you and your family a happy and healthy time together.
Miss Scotney, Miss Smith, Mrs Price and Miss Olley
Here you will be able to find out about what your child is learning about and the activities they have enjoyed doing.
While we have lots of work to do, we still manage to have lots of fun!
We start the year with our Towers, Tunnels and Turrets Topic. We learn all about castles, bridges and lots more!
We have started our topic with a fantastic trip to Richmond Castle, where we explored the bailey, the keep, the towers, the great hall and The Richmond 16 exhibition. We were able to look inside the prison using an interactive video, exploring the cells and hallway.
Our last topic in the Autumn term will be Street Detectives, where we will be focusing on our local area and how it has changed over time.
This term our topic will be Land Ahoy! We learn all about life at sea, including life as a pirate and the life of the great explorer, Captain James Cook. We will look at all of the different materials used to make a pirate ship and decide which ones are the most effective.
Our next topic is Scented Garden. We will be planting our own bulbs and beans to see how they grow when different factors are taken away.
Here are our beans 3 weeks apart! Look how much they have changed or haven’t changed!
Plant A – No light, water, cotton wool
Plant B – No cotton wool, water, light
Plant C – No water, light, cotton wool
Plant D – Water, light, cotton wool
During May we will be sitting out Key Stage 1 SATs. However, we still have lots of other fun!
After the Easter holidays, our topic is Muck, Mess and Mixtures. We will be exploring the properties of different materials and how solid objective can change shape by bending, squashing, pulling and twisting.
After the May half term holiday our topic is Beachcombers. We will be learning all about the beach and its environment.
