British Values at Kader Academy

At Kader Academy, we are proud to nurture pupils who embody British values through their actions, attitudes and understanding, preparing them to thrive in a diverse and ever-changing society.

Aims

At Kader Academy, our intent is to develop pupils who are thoughtful, respectful and active citizens, fully prepared for life in modern Britain. Rooted in our values of Kindness, Ambition, Determination, Excellence and Respect, and our vision of One Family. Little People. Big Dreams, we ensure that every child understands their role within a diverse, multicultural and multi-faith society.

We are committed to embedding a deep and meaningful understanding of British values – democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance – enabling pupils to develop a strong moral compass and a secure sense of belonging.

Through our ambitious curriculum and wider opportunities, pupils are encouraged to celebrate their own identity and heritage, whilst developing respect, empathy and appreciation for others. In doing so, they gain a clear understanding of both the diversity and the shared values that unite our community and wider society.

Approach

British values are seamlessly woven throughout our curriculum and school life, ensuring they are actively lived, experienced and understood, rather than simply taught.

Curriculum Integration:
British values are explicitly taught and revisited across the curriculum, particularly through our Jigsaw PSHE programme and our RE curriculum in line with SACRE guidance. Through these, pupils explore themes such as identity, relationships, respect, beliefs and moral responsibility, enabling them to develop a deep and reflective understanding of their place in society.

Rich Curriculum Content:
Across subjects such as History, pupils explore significant events and influential figures — including the voyages of Captain James Cook and the Great Fire of London — allowing them to understand how Britain has evolved and to reflect on the values that continue to shape society today.

Pupil Voice and Democracy:
Pupils actively engage in democratic processes through our School Council and a range of opportunities to share their views. This ensures they develop a clear understanding of fairness, representation and the importance of having a voice.

Global Citizenship:
Our Geography curriculum broadens pupils’ understanding of the wider world, including the rule of law and the ways in which individuals and communities can advocate for change. This supports pupils in developing a strong sense of responsibility as global citizens.

Inclusive Culture and Oracy:
Assemblies, classroom discussions and wider school experiences promote respect, challenge stereotypes and celebrate diversity. Pupils are encouraged to engage in meaningful dialogue, underpinned by our strong focus on oracy, enabling them to articulate their thoughts with confidence and respect.

Celebration of Diversity:
Our school community is enriched by a wide range of cultures and faiths. Through our inclusive curriculum and daily practice, pupils develop respect for different beliefs, recognising both diversity and the shared values that underpin religion and modern British society.

Outcomes

As a result of this carefully planned approach, pupils at Kader Academy demonstrate a secure and mature understanding of British values and how these apply to their everyday lives. They articulate their views with confidence, listen respectfully to others and engage in meaningful discussion, reflecting the school’s strong emphasis on oracy.

Pupils show high levels of respect, tolerance and empathy, embracing the diversity within the school and the wider community. As a result, pupils develop a strong sense that they belong, feeling valued, safe and understood within an inclusive environment.

Through opportunities such as School Council, pupils actively contribute to decision-making and develop a clear understanding of democracy, fairness and representation. They recognise their rights and responsibilities, enabling them to achieve both socially and academically as active, informed citizens.

Pupils leave Kader Academy as confident, reflective and socially responsible individuals, equipped with a strong moral compass and a deep sense of purpose. They are well prepared for the next stage of their education and life in modern Britain, ready to thrive in a diverse and ever-changing world, embodying the school’s values of Kindness, Ambition, Determination, Excellence and Respect in all that they do.

School Council

At Kader Academy, the School Council plays a vital role in promoting pupil voice and developing a genuine understanding of democracy in action. Representatives are elected by their peers, giving pupils first-hand experience of democratic processes and the importance of fairness and representation. Through regular meetings, pupils are empowered to share ideas, contribute to decision-making and influence aspects of school life, fostering a strong sense of responsibility and belonging. This not only strengthens our ethos of One Family but also ensures that pupils feel heard, valued and able to make a meaningful difference within their school community.
