“Music is a universal language that connects us, inspires us and helps us understand the world and ourselves.”
Aims
At Kader Academy, our intent is to provide a rich and inclusive music education that fosters creativity, self-expression and emotional development. We aim to inspire a lifelong passion for music in every child, ensuring that all pupils have the opportunity to engage with and appreciate a diverse range of musical genres, cultures and traditions.
Our bespoke curriculum is designed to nurture each child’s unique musical potential, encouraging them to explore their creativity and build confidence both as musicians and as individuals. Through our curriculum drivers, music plays a vital role in developing Identity, as pupils express themselves and explore different cultures; Relationships, as they collaborate, perform and create together; and Ambition, as they strive to develop their skills and perform with confidence and pride.
To support progression, our curriculum is carefully structured around four key areas of learning:
Performance Opportunities
Practical and Instrumental Skills
Composing and Creating
Listening, Understanding and Appraising
Through these areas, we ensure that all children develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to appreciate, perform and create music, enabling them to see themselves as musicians and active contributors to the cultural life of their community.
Approach
Beyond the classroom, a range of clubs, ensembles and performance opportunities are provided to allow pupils to showcase their talents and develop their skills further. These experiences nurture ambition, giving pupils the confidence to perform, take risks and see themselves as musicians. To achieve our vision, we implement a structured and inclusive music curriculum that provides all pupils with meaningful opportunities to develop as musicians and individuals. Music lessons are delivered by a specialist teacher, ensuring high-quality teaching, strong subject knowledge and a consistent, ambitious approach across the school. Pupils are exposed to a wide range of musical genres, styles and traditions—from classical to contemporary, traditional to digital- enabling them to develop their identity through music while fostering respect and appreciation for different cultures and communities.
Music is brought to life through practical, engaging experiences. Pupils take part in singing, instrumental work and composition through both group activities and individual exploration. These opportunities strengthen relationships as pupils collaborate, perform and create together, while also building confidence in their own musical expression. Our approach is rooted in inclusive excellence, with lessons carefully adapted to meet the needs of all learners. This ensures that every child can access, engage with and succeed in music, regardless of their starting point.
Outcomes
At Kader Academy, pupils develop a secure foundation of musical knowledge, skills and understanding, in line with the expectations of the National Curriculum, enabling them to confidently perform, compose and appraise music across a range of genres and styles. Through high-quality, specialist teaching and rich musical experiences, pupils see themselves as musicians and take pride in their achievements.
Pupils demonstrate increasing confidence in performance, whether singing or playing instruments and are able to express themselves creatively through composition. They listen with focus and understanding, using appropriate musical vocabulary to describe, compare and evaluate music, reflecting the key disciplinary skills set out within the curriculum.
Music plays a vital role in developing pupils’ sense of identity, as they explore diverse musical traditions and find their own voice as musicians. Through collaborative work, rehearsals and performances, pupils build strong relationships, learning to support, respect and perform alongside others. Opportunities to perform and refine their skills foster ambition, encouraging pupils to take risks, strive for excellence and develop confidence in sharing their talents.
As a result, pupils leave Kader with a love of music and a sense of pride in their musical journey. They are well-prepared to continue their musical development at the next stage of education, with the knowledge, skills and cultural understanding expected of learners at the end of primary school.
A fabulous opportunity for some of our children to work with the English National Opera with their performance coming up in Summer 2026!
NEWS UPDATE APRIL 2026!
We are incredibly proud of our Year 5 pupils, whose composition “Beautiful Turquoise” has been recognised by the English National Opera as part of their Finish This… project, completing a section of Omar Shahryar’s opera “Blue, Red, Yellow”.
Praised for its creativity and imagination, the piece was described as “a peaceful, under-the-sea world… like a cosmic dream.”
Out of 123 submissions, it was selected as one of just 20 compositions to be turned into a professional animation- an outstanding achievement!
This is a fantastic example of our pupils composing with confidence, creativity and ambition. We are incredibly proud of them.
