Welcome to Year 2!

Meet the Staff

Year 2 is a special and important year at Kader Academy, marking the final stage of Key Stage 1 and a key point in each child’s learning journey.

Rooted in our Kader values of Kindness, Ambition, Determination, Excellence and Respect, and driven by Relationships, Identity and Ambition, we create a nurturing environment where every child feels part of One Family, develops confidence in who they are and is encouraged to achieve their very best.

In Year 2, pupils continue to build on the strong foundations developed in EYFS and Year 1, becoming more confident readers, writers and mathematicians. The curriculum is engaging and carefully sequenced, allowing children to deepen their understanding, make connections in their learning and develop independence.

A strong emphasis is placed on reading and language development, ensuring pupils become fluent, expressive readers who develop a genuine love of books. Through high-quality teaching, purposeful talk and meaningful learning experiences, children are supported to articulate their ideas with growing confidence.

Beyond the classroom, pupils benefit from a range of enriching opportunities that support their personal development, strengthen relationships and build confidence – forest school being a firm favourite!

As pupils approach the end of Key Stage 1, they are well supported to feel confident and prepared for the transition into Key Stage 2.

By the end of Year 2, our pupils are confident, enthusiastic learners who are proud of their achievements and ready for the next stage of their journey- living our vision of:

One Family. Little People. Big Dreams.

SATS

In the the month of May, children will complete what were previously known as Key Stage 1 SATs. These are now used informally in schools and form part of our ongoing assessment process rather than being statutory national tests.

At Kader Academy, we use these assessments in a calm and supportive way, just like any other classroom activity. They help teachers to understand what children know and can do, alongside the rich, day-to-day assessment that takes place throughout the year.

There is no pressure on the children, and they often don’t even realise they are being assessed. Our focus remains on building confidence, celebrating progress and ensuring every child feels successful as they continue their learning journey.

Personal Development and Wellbeing

In Year 2, personal development and wellbeing remain central to school life. Building on the strong foundations from EYFS and Year 1, pupils continue to develop independence, resilience and a strong sense of belonging within our One Family community.

Through our Jigsaw PSHE curriculum, children deepen their understanding of friendships, respect, emotions and staying safe, while learning how to look after their physical and mental health. This builds upon the British Values introduced earlier, with pupils developing a stronger understanding of fairness, rules, responsibility and respect for others.

Kader’s 50 Seeds initiative further enriches this by providing meaningful experiences that help pupils grow in confidence, develop their identity and feel connected to their community.

Pupils are encouraged to take pride in their achievements and take on responsibilities within the classroom, supporting them to become confident, respectful and well-rounded individuals ready for the next stage of their journey.
