A super first week back for Year 6 and so many engaging experiences for the children! Our new topic this term is ‘Blood Heart’. This is a science based topic about the human circulatory system. The children need to be able to identify and name the main parts of the human circulatory system, and describe the functions of the heart, blood vessels and blood. For the children to fully understand these concepts, the children have been hands on creating and making their own blood bags containing the four main components of the blood – ask your child what these are. The children then used our life-sized drawing of ‘Pablo’ to create their own chalk drawings on the playground to show how the blood vessels travel through the circulation system. Finally, the children had an inspiring practical science session with Miss Donald (Mrs Donald’s daughter, who is currently studying for her Masters’ Degree in human anatomy) where all children had the opportunity to dissect a lamb’s heart which was gruesomely amazing!!
