This week, we have been learning about the planets in our Solar System and how they orbit the Sun at different distance, causing different lengths of a year (did you know that a year on Neptune is roughly 165 of our Earth years? We have used a comic to help us with speech (check out Mr Keen’s amazing illustrations!)

  • SPAG homework due Friday 20th November
Page 17 (prepositions). Success criteria at the top of the page. I would encourage children to use the internet to revise prepositions, if they feel this will help them.
  • Maths homework due Friday 20th Page 21 (written multiplication) Children should follow the success criteria at the top of the page. It may be useful to access Conquer Maths to revise for this (particularly long multiplication). Please do not panic – long multiplication is tricky and takes time to sink in. Also can we ask that children are accessing Times Tables Rockstars is possible? We are one of the best year groups in the school for this so we ask that children are logging in and practising for an odd 10 minutes here and there! Hopefully this won’t be too arduous as it is VERY fun! We really feel this will benefit them!
  • NEW comprehension task – 2 minute reads! Aimed at improving children’s fluency. We have sent a sheet home with children and explained the task. It is not a very time-consuming task but we hope this new approach could make all the difference! The sheet itself has all the relevant information on it! We hope everyone can get behind this and support us in developing fluency!
  • Night -time reading. 4x a week minimum, please. Children need to be reading for at least 20 minutes in each of these sessions and exploring the meaning of any new vocabulary. This is to be logged on the Seesaw website/app, please.

Many thanks for your continued support,

Y5 team
