Dear Parents and Guardians,
Our new science topic for this half term is called ‘Burps, Bottoms and Bile’. During this unit of work, the children will be learning about teeth and dental hygiene.
We will be teaching the children about plaque and tooth decay. Plaque is a soft sticky film that builds up on your teeth and contains millions of bacteria. The bacteria in plaque causes tooth decay and gum disease if we do not brush (and floss) our teeth regularly!
As part of our investigation, we would like the children to chew a ‘plaque disclosing tablet.’ The disclosing tablet contains a harmless vegetable dye, which highlights any plaque that may be present on the surface of a tooth. The dye shows old plaque in blue and new plaque in red.
For you information, we will be using the following brand of disclosing tablet:
Product: Two tone Plaqsearch Chews
Ingredients: natural vegetable dyes for blue and red colouring (Erythrosine free) – Hydrated Dextrates, Magnesium Stearate, Sodium Starch Glycolate, Aroma, CI 42090, CI 45410.
We would like to carry out our science investigation on Monday 16th November. As the investigation requires your child to brush their teeth, please ensure that your child has their toothbrush and toothpaste in school with them.
Please go to the Parentapps Consent Form section to give parental permission for your child to take part in the activity.
Should you have any questions regarding this investigation, please do not hesitate to contact us.
