Dear Parents/Carers,

Thee school has received the following information regarding School Meal Price changes from September 1st from Middlesbrough Council.

School Meal Price Increase

As you are aware, the Council has not increased the paid meal price charged to Parents/Guardians since 2009.

Following a period of consultation the outcome of which went to Executive on 17th March 2020, the Council is now in a position to increase the price of both Primary and Secondary paid school meals.

The increase was due to take affect from 1st April 2020 bringing Middlesbrough broadly in line with prices charged across the other Tees Valley Authorities. However due to the COVID-19 Pandemic we have held on this increase and would ask for this to now commence from 1st September 2020. Moving forward prices will rise annually at the rate of inflation.

The Current Meal Price is:

Primary Meal/Nursery                                 £1.90

Secondary Meal                                           £2.00

The Proposed Meal Price:

Primary Meal/Nursery                                 £2.05

Secondary Meal                                           £2.15

The rationale for this increase will also allow the service to maintain the level of choice and quality offered as part of the School Meals Service Provision.

The Living Wage Foundation, rising food costs, equipment, repair and replacement costs are continually increasing, the service needs to be in a position to cover all of the associated costs.

The price of Pupil and Adult Paid meals will increase by the rate of inflation annually moving forward.
