Good Afternoon!

Please find the common exception words (jumping red words – these are the words children can’t phonetically decode) your child needs to learn by the end of KS1. Your child could use look, say, cover, write, check to help them learn the words. They could think of ways to help them remember the words such as mnemonics ( e.g. because – big, elephants, can’t, always, use, small, exits), say it as it looks, word in a word (busy on the bus), a sticky letter (o in people – draw a face) or rap the word. They could also create their own sentences using the jumping red words.

We hope you are all staying home, safe and active!

Miss Smith and Miss Scotney.
